Move
over Toyota's
Prius, the new 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid should be
seriously considered by anyone interested in purchasing
a hybrid vehicle.
The 2006
Honda Civic Hybrid has been redesigned with the rest of
the Civic line. It is available as a 4 door, 5 passenger
compact sedans, with optional Navigation System.
Honda has significantly
improved the car in regards to power and interior
refinement as compared to the older version. Like all
other new 2006 Civic sedans, the Hybrid has a beautiful
revised interior design that features a two-tier
instrument panel, improved seating areas and a
multi-functional center console.
The 2006 Honda Civic
Hybrid features significant power train updates, both
trims are equipped with a
standard
1.3 liter 8 valve, i-VTEC 4-cylinder
engine. The latest
generation of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA)
delivered more power (110HP) and much better fuel
economy than previous model, 49-mpg in the city and
51-mpg on the highway.

The upgrades have put the
Civic back in the game. I'd
still pick a more
interesting-driving car with
a smarter transmission, but
think about it: best
reliability, best resale
value, and best gas mileage
in one stroke? When an
already solid piece of
transportation promises to
be so extremely easy on the
wallet, it's hard to give
less than a wholehearted
recommendation......read

The 2006 Honda Civic
Hybrid's cabin boasts an
impressive array of
technology for Honda's
lowest-end car--a position
soon to be occupied by the
Honda Fit, which will push
the Civic up a notch. The
$1,500 navigation option
includes an impressive
voice-recognition system
that we found very useful.
The standard 160-watt stereo
in our test car sounded
good; it was clear but
lacking depth. The stereo
comes with an auxiliary
input jack and is prepped
for XM Satellite Radio. The
touch-screen LCD makes for
easy access to both stereo
and navigation controls.......read

Unlike the previous version,
which drew power
continuously from both the
gas and electric motors,
Honda's latest Integrated
Motor Assist (IMA) system
runs exclusively on electric
power under certain
conditions — typically at
moderate cruising speeds —
to further conserve fuel.
Honda's technology still
differs from Toyota's hybrid
system found in the Prius,
which runs the vehicle
wholly on electric power
from a standstill to low
speeds. As before, the Civic
Hybrid's gasoline engine
shuts down completely when
the vehicle stops . This is
because an idling engine
gets zero mpg and creates
some of the highest levels
of exhaust emissions.......read

The
Hybrid's fuel economy has
improved, and Honda suspects
that its real-world results
will mirror mileage
estimates. Based on the
numbers alone, the
efficiency has increased
about 5 percent, according
to Honda. With its roughly
5-percent increase in curb
weight, the Hybrid isn't
noticeably quicker or
slower; Honda hasn't made
the car unnecessarily quick
at the expense of fuel
economy — as in the Accord
and other hybrids introduced
recently, a questionable
move.......read
