2006 Mercury Mariner HybridDebuted one year earlier than originally planned due to raising consumer interest in gas-electric hybrid vehicles, the 2006 Mercury Mariner is all-new for model year 2006, it is consider an upscale version based on Ford's Escape Hybrid and Mazda Tribute. The 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid is a 4 door, 5 passenger sport utility vehicle (SUV) and is available in one trim only, the four wheel drive (4WD). It is powered by a standard 2.3 liter, DOHC Duratec 4 cylinder engine with an Atkinson operating cycle and two electric motors that provide both motor and generator functions. The combined power output is rated at 155 horsepower and it can achieved a fuel economy of 33 mpg in the city and 29 on the highway. The powertrain also includes an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

 

The 2006 Mariner Hybrid is configured as a Full Hybrid. During traffic stop or coasting at a low speed the gasoline engine automatically shuts down and is powered only by the electric motor.
