Debuted as a compact
car in 2001 as one of the most environmentally
friendly vehicles you can buy, the Prius is currently the
best selling hybrid vehicles sold in the U.S. and around
the world. The current 2006 Prius is a second generation
4-door, 5 passengers midsize family sedan that is available
in one trim only, it is equipped with a standard 1.5-liter,
VVT-i four-cylinder engine with an electric drive motor
(Hybrid Synergy Drive), producing 110-horsepower that achieves
60-mpg in the city and 51-mpg on the highway, with a combined
rating of 55 mpg. A variable speed automatic transmission
with overdrive is standard.
The
2006 Toyota Prius is a refresher from the prior year with
only a minor updates, it includes the restyling of the headlights
and taillights, darker colored seat fabric, textured instrument
panel and an advance airbag system. The advance airbag system
uses sensors to determine the severity of the impact and
deploys the appropriate amount of force.

The
Toyota Prius is more than a
car. It's a phenomenon. It's
proof that more people than
Toyota imagined want to drive
cars with significantly improved
fuel economy and radically less
environmental impact. Toyota
has boosted production to keep
up with the demand, and the
2006 model benefits from the
addition of new advanced airbags
and other safety technology
plus new comfort and convenience
features......read

The Prius hybrid is a legitimate
family sedan that offers everything
you would expect from a Toyota
car -- like solid build quality
and refinement -- and a few
things you don't -- like a low
base price. Add in the eye-popping
mileage and long list of standard
features, and it's easy to see
why the 2006 Toyota Prius remains
one of the most talked about
cars available today.....read

I have a 2003 Prius and got
in before the prices went up
(I think I paid around 20,000.
Well worth it. No problems in
85,000 miles and fantastic gas
mileage. The newer ones are
even better but I average 47
mpg combined highway & city.
Tax break was nice as well -
helps offset the increased cost
but, in my mind, it is not more
expensive. I had a Camry and
this car is just as nice!
