Originally
launched two years ago only in selected environmentally
sensitive states, the 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Extended Cab
Hybrid and its close companion, the Chevy Silverado
Hybrid is now available nationwide. The 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 Hybrid Extended Cab is a 4-door,
6-passenger full size half-ton pickup, it is available
in 4 trims, the 2WD and the 4WD in each of the SLE1 and
SLE2 configuration. New for 2006 model is an optional VortexMax Performance Package that is only available in
the 4WD models. The Silverado Hybrid is powered by a
standard 5.3 liter, V8, 295 horsepower Vortec 5300
engine, and a 4 speed Hydra-Matic automatic Transmission
with hybrid propulsion system technology. This HP system
replaces the traditional starter and alternator,
providing up to 14,000 watts of electric power. It also
has the ability to start the engine quickly and
seamlessly under varying driving conditions. Fuel
economy is 18 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway
for the 2WD model, and 17/19 mpg for the 4WD model.
The 2006 GMC Sierra Hybrid is essentially identical to the
Chevy Silverado Hybrid.
